Request vehicle history with a US license plate and state
If you do not have a VIN handy, VINPOSTA’s order form also accepts a US license plate with the state in which it is registered. The state matters because the same plate characters can exist in different states. Plate-based identification may require additional confirmation.
Enter both the plate and its registration state
Select the License plate tab on the order form, type the plate characters and choose the registration state. Check the plate against the vehicle or its documents. Do not select the state based only on where the car is currently parked or advertised; use the state shown on its plate or registration.
Why a VIN may still be needed
Plates can be transferred, changed or associated with records that need further checking. If the information cannot reliably identify the intended vehicle, the seller may need the VIN before supplying a report. Submitting a plate and state does not guarantee a match or guarantee that accident, service or other records will be available.
Vehicle records, not private owner details
This service is for requesting a vehicle history report. It is not a service for finding a private owner’s name, address or phone number. Use the report to review available vehicle events and compare them with the actual car and supporting documents. If a report cannot be supplied after payment, contact the seller about the order and refund.
